The National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving (NASID), a coalition established by Responsibility.org, is pleased to announce the 2024 NASID Executive Board. Jonathan Adkins, Chief Executive Officer of the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), and Debra Coffey, Chief Government Affairs Officer Emeritus at Smart Start, will continue their roles as Chair and Treasurer respectively. Kristin Smith, Head of Global Road Safety Policy at Uber, will join the board as Secretary. Executive Board members serve for one year and may continue in this role as voted on by the NASID membership. For more information click here. 

Since 2023, Jonathan Adkins has been CEO of GHSA after serving as Executive Director since 2014. Adkins directs the organization’s headquarters, serves as GHSA’s chief liaison with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and represents the organization on Capitol Hill. Under Adkins’ leadership, GHSA has added new programs, member services, and staff.

Debra Coffey has devoted her life to helping improve public safety. She is a nationally recognized leader in impaired driving prevention. Coffey has led Smart Start’s government affairs initiatives for the past 26 years. She is now in a consultant position with Smart Start working to help drive the company’s legislative efforts at the state and federal level. She founded Safety and Advocacy for Empowerment (SAFE), formally known as the Coalition of Ignition Interlock Manufacturers (CIIM), which leads ignition interlock legislation advocacy around the United States.

Kristin Smith is the newest member of the NASID Executive Board. In her role as Head of Global Road Safety Policy at Uber, she leads the company’s road safety and impaired driving prevention efforts. Smith has integrated the Safe System approach into Uber’s road safety efforts, championed support for Vision Zero initiatives, and prioritized the safety of vulnerable road users.
