The National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving(NASID) Announces 2025 Executive Board

The National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving (NASID), a coalition established and led by Responsibility.org, is pleased to announce their newly appointed 2025 NASID Executive Board. Debra Coffey, Chief Government Affairs Officer Emeritus at Smart Start, will assume the role of board chair, and Kristin Smith, Head of Global Road Safety Policy at Uber, will continue in her position as secretary. Jerry Miller, Executive Director at the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research, joins the board as treasurer. Jonathan Adkins, Chief Executive Officer of the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) will be stepping aside as chair of the Executive Board and will remain active with NASID. Adkins served as NASID’s first chairman for four years as the coalition hosted three conferences and developed its national strategic framework.

“It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as board chair over the past years, and to see all that we have accomplished,” said Jonathan Adkins. “The collective work that NASID members undertake is a testament to the commitment of professionals throughout the traffic safety industry to eliminate impaired driving.”

NASID membership is comprised of leaders in law enforcement, toxicology, road safety, emerging technology, advocacy and social responsibility dedicated to preventing lives lost caused by impaired driving. Through effective and proven measures such as DUI system reform, DUI detection, state and federal advocacy efforts, public awareness and education, and improved use of data and technology, NASID membership is aligned with the ultimate goal of preventing the loss of lives attributed to impaired driving.

“I’m honored to have been elected the 2025 NASID Executive Board Chair,” said Debra Coffey. “This is a critical time for road safety; I am excited to see what NASID can accomplish this year, and I look forward to engaging with and supporting our members in our continued efforts to save lives.”

“We are proud to be a convener of great leaders in all segments of traffic safety. Drunk and impaired driving is a choice and the injuries and deaths that result are 100% preventable,” said Leslie Kimball, Executive Director of Responsibility.org. “No one should have to share the road with an impaired driver, and the work that NASID members do each day not only keeps dangerous individuals off the roads, but it also helps those convicted of DUI and DUID offenses to get the help they need to not reoffend. I am grateful to the Executive Board for their leadership and expertise in this space.”

Executive Board members serve for one year and may continue in this role as voted on by the NASID membership. Constantly working towards making roads safer, NASID members have recently formed an Oral Fluid Working Group to develop resources for practitioners in states looking to implement roadside oral fluid screening programs and conducted a webinar to assist professionals in better understanding the relationship between mental health and impaired driving. Later this spring these experts will release an oral fluid map and policy documents for states regarding new technology for detecting muti-substance impaired driving.
